Kill Your Idols*

About the reference to the inspiration tumblr in the last entry: I'm not opening one. What I sort of wanted for this blog was a place where I can update about my work, I didn't want to muddle it up with personal ramblings and such. So I thought I could open a separate place where I could post images from all the illustrators that inspire me. There's so much out there - I need a place where I can visually collect my opponents. See, I have a problem with inspiration, it sends me reeling into a downward spiral of self hatred. I get so down on my own work when I see incredible things being produced by other illustrators. Inspiration drives me to work only so I can be happy with my level of competition.

colored!

skool sketch

Just something I drew in class, i'll probably color it.

If anyone sees this, check out Luke Pearson, an illustrator from the uk, whom i found via stumble.

Also, I'm looking into getting a tumblr as a place to post images that inspire my work.

Cut, Paste, Repeat

Here's a rough copy of the poster i designed based on the WPA movement of the 30's and 40's (my latest assignment for intro to illustration) I used construction paper, and photographed it because my home scanner is too small for the 11 x 17 poster.

I think it turned out ok, the issue i chose was trick or treat for unicef, i think that's clear. I need to get a better scan, hopefully some happy accident occurs and i can replicate that nice shininess. Looks sort of like a fake gradient.

UPDATE: check out the way better scanned-and-edited-in-photoshop version on flickr!

Political cartoons accomplished

I just posted the first 3 of 5 political cartoons that i managed to come up with. The whole thing was an assignment for class that resulted in a ton of grief. I'm pretty happy with the results though. See for yourself over at the flickr

Cupcakes and Confidence

I drew cupcakes at work today, working on a design for a friend's tattoo. My favorite it the dominatrix cupcake.

Everything's better when you wear the confidence sweater.

"villains"

I should come up with a name and a back story for each of these dubious characters.

Continuous worrying about my talent leads to much blogging

Two For Tea

something went wrong with the color when i uploaded this image to flickr. Here's the better version.

everyone deserves somebody with antlers.

Check out that header. pretty neat huh?

I changed the look of the ol' blawg, trying to get things together before i need to make a fully functioning website.
The photo-stream over there is a good tool, swing over there to see some illustrations I just did for a children's story written by Mikey Beddome, a friend of mine and film student at NYU.
They aren't particularly good, at least I don't think they would pass for professional. maybe barely.
Ive been working in watercolor a lot lately.

That's a good segue into my next problem, the political cartoon assignment. It was assigned in both my illustration and comics class that we have to come up with 3 political cartoons, thats 6 total for me. I've got a few strong ideas but I'm having a hard time conceptualizing them on paper.

When and if I come up with some cartoons that are decent, I'll post them here for the word to ridicule.
