New Chicago Comics

Today I went with my good friend Matt Soria and (number one fan) Zoraida to the New Chicago Comics exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibit showcases original comic pages, sketches, scripts and animations by four incredibly talented Chicago cartoonists: Paul Hornschemeier, Anders Nilsen, Lilli Carre, and Jeffrey Brown. Unfortunately, today was the final day the work will be up according to the MCA website. Otherwise, I would have recommended that anyone interested in comics should definitely check it out. There are so many talented artists at work in comics in Chicago right now. Not only is it cool to see the field getting recognition as a high art form, but it was both exciting and humbling to see the bar being set so high by some of our best young artists.

If you're still looking for something cool to check out at the MCA, they have a Jim Nutt exhibit going on right now. The show is a sort of retrospective of his work from early career until now. It's impressive. Theres also a companion show featuring work by other artists in conversation with Nutt's work that was equally awesome.

This semester is shaping up to be a busy one. I'm taking five labor intensive studio classes, so I'd like to apologize in advance for the inevitable drop in quality of my work. The good news is, if all goes well, in the near future I'll be rolling out Volume 2 and 3. So you can always pick up a copy of those, pull up a rocking chair, sip your sweet tea and talk about the "good ol' days" of Our Ever Improving Living Room.

as always, thanks for reading!

home.

We're home, having been in New York! Here are the comics from the last week and today.
New York was great, we saw so much, ate so much, and walked so much. Shout out to the coffee on the Staten Island Ferry, as it was both cheap and delicious. I must go back someday.

See you on the 16th!

Saturday, January 8, 2011

just a couple of things -

I realized I've been mis-dating the comics the past few days. its 2011 now... sorry. Won't happen again.

Also, tomorrow night I'm leaving for New York for the week with my good friends Matt Soria and Kelly Catalano. I won't be able to update while I'm out of town, so sadly you'll have to wait for comics again. I'll be back on the 16th.

Comic Number 100!

It's comic number 100 - and it just happens to fall on new year's day, which is also 1-1-11. I think thats kind of cool (I didn't plan it or anything). But anyway, I hope everyone had a good new years. I over-served myself, I was irresponsibly. But at least it was better than Halloween. At least we had a full day of relaxing and eating a delicious meal to make up for it. Although, as good as all of that was, frankly right now I miss the comforts of home and feel like I could use a hug.

Anyway, thanks for sticking with me for the first 100 days, 265 more to go.

Also, blogger isn't letting me post images straight on here again, so if you've noticed I've been forced to post them on flickr in tandem, not sure how long thats going to be a problem. I mean I guess it's not a problem, but I'm bothered by it even if you aren't.
